2017 was a year of metal detecting firsts for me. If anything I learned that you can never say never when it comes to the hobby of metal detecting.
Two of my finds blew my mind because I never thought I would find these coins.
The 1906 Barber Quarter was my first ever Barber Quarter and it was found behind a very historic old house while detecting with my buddy Russ. A few months later, while hunting the side yard of an old victorian house I found the 1853 Large Cent, a coin that I thought I would Never find. I guess you can never say never, and when I found my first Large cent I was mind-blown. I still can’t believe I found a largie!
As detectorists we find coins from all over, and the silver-colored coin next to the Will Rogers memorial medallion is an Italian 200 Lire coin. Foreign coins are always fun to find, and I had never seen a Lire coin prior to finding this one. Lastly, the star shaped badge is a 1924-25 The Anti-Automobile Thief Association of America Medallion is a rare find which has some interesting history to it. I found several cool targets in 2017, even though I didn’t get out to detect as often as I would have liked, it was a fun year of detecting, a year full of firsts so I look forward to seeing what cool finds 2018 reveals. Until then, Happy Hunting Everyone!
Congrats on the coin finds–Hope 2018 brings you more of those coins you never thought you would find!
