One of the things that I always wonder about when I hear of someone being turned down for permission to detect somewhere is, “What does this person look like?” Did they just roll out of bed on a Saturday morning and throw on the closest Camo shirt and pants that they could find and head out the door?

Most metal detectorists that are successful in gaining permission to private properties know that appearance is everything. Think about it, what would you think if you opened your door and some random guy is standing there looking like he is homeless and starts rambling something about looking for relics, or coins and asking permission to dig holes in your yard? You’d probably respectfully decline and close the door.

But, if that same guy is standing there looking presentable and respectful you’d be more likely to hear him out and extend permission for him to dig small holes in your yard as long as he filled his plugs. Well, one way that can increase your chances of success is keeping your facial hair shaved. Looking like the guys from Duck Dynasty is cool for TV, but here in the real world a clean shaven face is often more acceptable when asking someone for permission to metal detect in their yard.

When I opened it I noticed that the razor was very sharp looking chrome! There is a mirror inside the travel case for shaving on the go which I thought was a very nice feature. The razor itself is entirely Chromed and looks very durable.

I had told my wife about getting one of these razors and that I had never used this style of razor before. I figured that it would be like other razors that I’ve tried in the past that just rip the hair out of my face. I figured Oh well, if I don’t like it I can always give it to my dad.

Since I hadn’t shaved in a couple of days I decided to go ahead and give the razor a try. The razor comes with 12 blades, so I loaded one into the razor and turned the handle. A very easy installation actually! I lathered up my face with shaving cream and prepared myself for probably a painful shave. Boy was I wrong! On the first shave I could tell that the razor was super sharp and that there was NO pain whatsoever! I said “WOW! This is NICE!” It cut through my rough facial stubble like a hot knife through butter! It was absolutely amazing to me because I had never used this type of razor before. I had no idea what I was missing out on.

I did notice that I had to go somewhat slower as I shaved, but that could have just been due to my apprehension from using a new razor for the first time. The razor conformed to my face with each stroke and I was pleasantly surprised at the closeness of the shave.

I decided to go ahead and give the razor an ultimate test and shave off my mustache. The thing is, I haven’t shaved my mustache off in a few months. I didn’t use any shaving cream and went slow as I brought the razor through my mustache hair. The razor did an awesome job and it was painless and a very close shave. I was surprised at how easily the razor cut through the hair without pulling it.

I couldn’t believe that in my 30 years of shaving I hadn’t ever used this kind of razor. I have been missing out all of this time!
