Simple Way to Find More Treasure

We all want to find more treasure while metal detecting. After all, that’s the point!

There is a simple way to increase your chances of finding lost goodies. It’s not really a secret, but some new detectorists may not know what I’m about to share with you.

The motion of your swing can greatly affect the amount of good targets you find.

By keeping your coil parallel with the ground you are able to cover more area and detect deeper targets on each swing. If you lift your coil at the side of each swing, you are surely missing a few deeper targets.

This diagram demonstrates the proper swing technique. Keep good form and after awhile it will become second nature to you.

You will find more items which will add to the enjoyment of your hunts. Some guys like to “scrub” the ground with their coils. I do that when I’m in grassy areas and it can help you get an additional 1/2″ of depth or so.

Metal Detecting is like any other hobby or sport. If you perfect your technique you’ll shine in the field.

  1. I will admit to being a scrubber. I find that on a decent field scrubbing eases the arm strain on long hunts as well!
